ABOUT US
Learning to drive is one of the most important steps (and very often the first) in every adult’s life.  Having a driving licence opens up realms of possibilities; freedom to get around, independence and not having to rely on other people, far more choice and scope in job opportunities and of course increase in income because of that.  But with it comes great responsibility, for the safety of self, passengers and other road users.  A car can be a missile in inexperienced hands.

Learning to drive is not just about how to make a car move.  It is about how to negotiate safely and assertively on today’s hectic and often dangerous roads.

Freeway Driving Centre, in conjunction with the Governments Driving Standards Agency, aim to encourage learners to drive in a safe and responsible way and demonstrate courtesy and respect to other road users no matter their attitude and ability.

Theory Test
Learning is a personal matter and all our lessons are tailored to individual’s needs.  Help and encouragement is given freely to pupils needing to pass their theory test.  Relevant study material is offered and if preferred a practical lesson can be substituted or added with a theory lesson to aid progression.

Each lesson is individual and planned beforehand to further development.  This includes the subject to be taught and the type of roads / routes used.  The instructor will suggest a relevant learning objective to fit in with progress.  Pupils will not be asked to drop off the last pupil or pick up the next.

Lessons are planned at regular intervals (usually weekly or twice weekly) to assist development, at a time convenient to the pupil during the instructor’s available hours.  If the usual time cannot be met for any reason an alternative time will be offered.  Each instructor has a limit to the number of pupils he/she is teaching at one time to ensure regular lesson slots can be met.  Like most driving schools, we operate a 48-hour cancellation policy, where any lesson booked and cancelled by the pupil within 48 hours is subject to charge.  However, we promise to do our best to accommodate your lesson at an alternative time within a week subject to availability, to avoid charging for lessons not taken.

Practical test
If for some reason your instructor cannot make your lesson, we’ll send along a colleague to cover, or rearrange the lesson to suit you, or at the very least offer free extended time on your next lesson to apologise for any inconvenience.

Our instructors always aim to be punctual but if for some reason they cannot arrive at the scheduled time will call ahead and make up any time lost.

All our instructors are flexible so variable lesson times can easily be accommodated.  We’re happy to adjust our pick up and drop off points too (within local areas) to enable lessons to fit in more easily around your other commitments. Just give us 24 hours notice to make allowance for any change in our travel time between lessons, or adjust the route for the lesson subject.

Just as we’re committed to teaching, we ask our pupils to be committed to learning to drive.  Progress will be slow if lessons are frequently cancelled.  So we ask out pupils to ensure their availability to their agreed lesson times.  Pupils are asked for a £20 deposit on future lessons booked, which is deducted from the last lesson taken (usually test date).  For legal and safety reasons, we insist no pupil will be allowed to drive if under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or severely unwell or exhausted.

Every pupil’s progress is monitored and discussed at our Pupil Progress Updates.  This enables us to be consistent in our teaching methods and stay focused on individuals needs.  As each pupil becomes ready for test we organise test dates and times at the preferred DSA Testing Centre, and organise mock tests with a different instructor and additional lessons if necessary to prepare the pupil for the DSA test.

After successfully passing the DSA test, pupils may wish to further their driving experience by completing a Pass Plus course and benefit from reduced car insurance rates.  We have Pass Plus trained and registered instructors to assist with this.
